Keeping your blonde bright between visits
Getting your blonde right in my chair is half the job. The other half is what happens over the next few weeks at home, and the good news is it’s not complicated. Here’s what actually matters.
Washing between visits
There’s no magic number here. Some hair does best washed daily, some can go several days between washes. Use a gentle, sulfate-free shampoo, and on the days you skip, a little dry shampoo at the roots keeps things fresh. I like Amika Perk Up Plus or K18 Airwash. Being kind to your hair matters more than hitting a set number.
Reach for a purple conditioner, not shampoo
To keep yellow and brass at bay, I skip purple shampoo, which tends to be drying, and use a purple conditioner or mask instead. I really like Amika Bust Your Brass. Use it about once a month: it neutralises warmth while it conditions, so your blonde stays cool and soft rather than stripped.
Protect the bond
Lightening asks a lot of your hair, so keeping it strong is part of keeping it beautiful. In the chair I build strength back in as we go with a bond treatment like K18. At home, a weekly bond or repair treatment keeps that up between visits. Ask me which one suits your hair and I’ll get you set up.
Heat and sun both fade your color
Turn your hot tools down a touch and always use a heat protectant, ideally one with UV protection, which shields your colour from the sun too. Before you swim, work a deep conditioner through your ends: chlorine and salt water pull at your tone, and hair that’s already full of conditioner drinks that in instead. Rinse with clean water first, as well.
Mind your water
If you’re on hard water or a well, it’s worth knowing the minerals can strip your gloss, fade permanent colour, and build up on your scalp over time. A water softener makes a real difference: your colour lasts longer and your hair feels cleaner. Well worth it if your water is an issue.
How often to come in
Most of my blondes are happiest coming in every six to eight weeks. Coming in on a regular schedule keeps each visit shorter, gentler on your hair, and easier to keep looking its best.
